GSRG vs JSRG Roller Derby Bout
May 18, 2008
Another Saturday night in Absbury Park Convecntion Hall leads to another win for the Jersey Shore Roller Girls beating the Garden State Roller Girls 98-44. This marks the third win for JSRG which have now won their first three bouts since the leagues formation.
Could there have been a better weekend for this match which was marked as Bennys ( Bennies ? ) vs Locals being the weekend before Memorial Day? When the Bennys invade the shore, and the locals try and defend the shore. Knowing this each team was out for blood. Garden State trying to give the first loss to the Shore Girls. Where as the Shore Girls were out to send their message further to other teams that they mean serious business.
With a nice size crowd mixed with blue ( JSRG ) and green ( GSRG ) it was game time.
From the sound of the first whistle it was all JSRG with Chelle Be Evil starting it off to send that message. That message would continue to be writen for the first 7 minutes of the bout with JSRG not letting their opponent’s side of the score board lite up taking a 20-0 lead. With half of the the first half gone the score was 40-7. They sure were sending a message to be planted in the heads of everyone. ( play on words there :-p ) One of the Garden State Girls was the lead jammer and scored some points as she takes the back straighaway she calls off the jam taking her points then raising her hands, as if their it was a victory. Oh and it was indeed, because the Shore Girls had managed to hold Garden state for another 6 minutes without scoring. So scoring some points was some sort of victory. Garden State thinking they found a weakness in the JSRG team the girls would put an end to this showboating knocking a Garden State jammer to the floor hard making her call off the jam on her back. With the sound of the whistle the Shore Girls had a comfortable lead at half time, 57-18.
3 minutes into the 2nd half we already had JSRG on the board with another 6 points, and Garden State, well… they seem to take longer to get their wheels moving taking 4 minutes to score their first 5 points of the half making it 63-23. With hard falls. scoring. and penalities the last 4 minutes the Shore Girls had a 44 point lead the same score the Garden State had. For those bad with math that means that the Shore Girls had 88. Then with the sound of the whistle we have another win by JSRG 98-45. Yet again an impressive victory and outscoring the other team by more then double.
I was kind of disappointed with the performance of the JSRG girls, they manage to break bones and inflict sidelining injuries to one another during practice, but seemed as though the GSRG managed to skate away for the most part unharmed. Although the mental traum they will have is everlasting, losing to a team that had only two bouts under their belt going into this one. The Garden State Girls are now into their second season I would have thought the game would have been closer. It was impress for the JSRG to hold them for the first 7 minutes without scoring.
Maybe it was just me but for a team thats been around for a 2nd season you would think they would have better uniforms. Seemed as if they got off the Parkway on their way to Asbury Park and stopped and Walmart or Micheal’s Arts & Crafts and made their uniforms in their cars or the parking lot. Where as the JSRG had different uniforms each bout. Also the Garden Staters didn’t seem to be as diverse of a team age wise. All the girls seemed younger where as the Jersey Shore girls have a broad range of ages.
Was a good bout all around by both teams, can’t wait to see another one by any team.
